Shino knew Yumina.

Rumors about Kuraki Yumina were spreading even though she had only been in school for a short time. The wind stopped. Shino looked into Yumina’s eyes, feeling as if she could see through everything. Shino let her gaze drift away from Yumina to the white clouds flowing beyond her, and replied in a matter-of-fact manner.

Yumina took Shino’s small hand again. Shino felt the beginning of a long journey in their entwined thin fingertips.

“I’m glad I met you, Shino.”

Yumina whispered and closed her eyes. In her smile, Shino felt like she saw a goddess standing in the stained glass windows of an old church she used to visit when she was a child. From Yumina’s body and heart, he felt a clear glow and a soft warmth that was hard to leave. It’s not that I don’t love her, but I do love her. There was no proof of that, though.

She could smell the faint scent of disinfectant from Yumina’s fingertips.
